You Do Not Rise To Your Goals, You Fall To Your Systems: A Home & Lifestyle Coach’s Guide to an Organised Life
Hello, friends!
I’m here to hit you with a truth bomb: you can dream big, aim high, and set the loftiest goals for your life. But, guess what? You’ll only rise as high as your systems allow you to. 🙌
It’s not enough to just dream about that Instagram-worthy home or the ultra-productive daily routine. You need systems. Yes, systems. Those magical little daily habits, checklists, and organisational methods that keep you on track and help you maintain momentum. If you don't have solid systems in place, you might find yourself tripping over clutter, missing deadlines, or drowning in paperwork (or washing… am I right?).
But don’t worry! I’ve got your back, and I’m here to help you create systems that actually work for you.
So, what’s the secret to an organised home and an organised life?
It’s simple: Your environment shapes your productivity. Studies show that when our spaces are messy or chaotic, we feel overwhelmed, distracted, and even anxious. On the flip side, an organised home and workspace can help us think more clearly, be more productive, and feel a whole lot less stressed.
In fact, physical clutter can actually reduce our ability to focus and process information. So, if you're feeling scattered or unproductive, it might be time to take a good look at your systems—or lack thereof!
Here are some action steps, statistics, and tips to help you rise to the level of your goals and fall into a system that will support your dreams:
Action Step 1: Tackle Your Time (aka, Master Your Calendar)
Ever found yourself saying, “There just aren’t enough hours in the day”? Well, I have news for you—time is an equal opportunity employer. We all get the same 24 hours, so why not use them to their fullest?
For more on this- make sure to check out my last blog post.
The tip: Create a daily, weekly, and monthly calendar that works for you. If you don’t already, start blocking out chunks of time for your to-dos, whether it’s cleaning, working, or self-care. I recommend using Google Calendar to keep everything in one place.
Why it works: Having a set schedule not only keeps you on track but also helps you manage your energy more effectively. You know what tasks are coming up and how long they’ll take, so no more running around like a headless chicken.
Action Step 2: Declutter Your Space, Declutter Your Mind
Clutter Creates Chaos, Clean Creates Calm. If you're trying to juggle a bunch of projects and constantly step over piles of stuff, your brain is working overtime just to keep up with the chaos.
The tip: Start with small areas of your home—don’t overwhelm yourself! Pick one drawer or one countertop each day. Focus on getting rid of items that don’t serve you or bring you joy (yes, that applies to the knick-knacks that aren’t sentimental).
Why it works: People with organised spaces tend to feel less stressed and more in control of their day. And when your space is organised, your mind is free to focus on what matters most—your goals!
Action Step 3: Set Up Systems That Stick
You can have all the goals in the world, but if you don’t have a system to support them, you’ll end up spinning your wheels. Systems are the backbone of productivity. They are the hidden heroes that help you show up every day and do your best work.
The tip: Start by creating a system for each area of your life. This could mean creating an evening routine to set you up for the next day, a weekly cleaning schedule, or a filing system for your paperwork. My favorite tip? Try themed days. For example, Marketing Monday, Tidy Up Tuesday, Financial Friday.. No, it doesn't have to start with the same letter. Reset Sunday is just fine, too!
Why it works: Systems reduce decision fatigue. When you know exactly what to do and when to do it, you don’t waste precious energy figuring out the small stuff. You rescue task jumping and you can focus your brainpower on the big goals, knowing that your systems have your back.
Action Step 4: Get the Family Onboard (If You’re Not Flying Solo)
If you're living with a partner, kids, or roommates, you're going to need to get everyone involved in keeping the house running smoothly. It’s much easier to stay organised when everyone is on the same page.
The tip: Create a physical family calendar (Google Calendar works here, too) to keep track of everyone’s appointments, events, and responsibilities. If you have kids, start teaching them age-appropriate tasks so they can pitch in with things like tidying up after dinner or folding towels. A reward chat works a dream in my house.
Why it works: Families who pitch in together are not only more productive, but they also enjoy stronger relationships because they share the load (and, let's face it, the chores are less overwhelming). Plus, it keeps everyone accountable!
Disclaimer- I say this point with caution. It is also essential to meet people where they are at. We can’t go around expecting everyone to meet our standards if they don’t want to- it's got to be a shared desired outcome. If it’s not shared, you have to work on acceptance and be able to maneuver this carefully. I have coaching programmes to walk you through this and everything else mentioned in this blog so feel free to reach out and we can discuss how I might be able to help you.
Top Tips to Keep Your Systems Flowing:
Start small: Don’t try to overhaul everything at once. Pick one area to focus on, whether it’s your clothes storage, your schedule, or your kitchen, and work your way up.
Consistency is key: Create daily or weekly habits that keep you organised. The more consistent you are, the easier it gets.
Set reminders: Life gets busy, and sometimes even the best systems need a little nudge. Set up phone alerts or sticky notes to remind yourself of your tasks.
Celebrate your wins: When you get through a task or clear up a big pile of clutter, take a moment to acknowledge it. You’re one step closer to a more streamlined and simplified life!
Wrap-Up: Your Goals Are Waiting for You
At the end of the day, organising your home isn’t just about pretty Pinterest boards (although those are fun, too!). It’s about creating a space that allows you to thrive. A home that supports your goals, systems that keep you productive, and routines that set you up for success.
Remember: You will rise to the level of your goals—but you’ll fall to the level of your systems. So, let’s make sure those systems are strong, supportive, and set up for success!
And now, it’s your turn. Go ahead, take these tips and start organising one area of your life. Your future self will thank you. 😉
